Newport Jazz Festival has continued its legacy of showcasing the most forward-thinking musicians of the jazz scene for over 70 years. The 2025 lineup features a diverse range of artists, from seasoned veterans to emerging talent.
- Experienced players like Sir Ron Carter, Dianne Reeves, Kenny Garrett, and Terence Blanchard will perform alongside rising talent like Lakecia Benjamin, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Emmet Cohen, and Yussef Dayes.
- The festival also highlights the jazz adjacent tributaries of Black American music, including afro-beat stylings of Kokoroko, Brazilian Funk legends Cymande, and retro-soul vibes from Thee Sacred Souls.
The festival takes place from August 1-3, and the Christian McBride Big Band will perform on Sunday, August 3.
Christian McBride, the JAS Academy Artistic Director, has been a driving force in the jazz scene for decades. As a bandleader and educator, he has mentored many young musicians and has been a key figure in the development of the JAS Academy Big Band Sessions.
“Growing up in a city like Philadelphia, I learned to play everything as a hired professional musician, you never had time to think about genre. You’re hired to play a gig, you play what the gig calls for it. So in doing that, you learn more about that particular genre and you carry it with you,” says McBride.
The Yussef Dayes Experience will perform on Friday, August 1. Dayes is known for his expressive and detailed drumming, blending spiritual jazz, funk, soul, and global influences.
Dayes was born and raised in London and began playing drums at a young age. He has released several critically acclaimed albums, including his latest, Black Classical Music.

The Moses Yoofee Trio, featuring pianist and composer Moses Yoofee Vester, bassist Roman Klobe-Baranga, and drummer Noah Fürbringer, will perform on Friday, August 1. The trio blends genres from R&B, hip-hop, and soul into traditional jazz styles.
The Moses Yoofee Trio has gained traction with their debut EP “Ocean” in 2023 and their latest full-length album “MYT” released in February 2025.
CARRTOONS, a versatile multi-instrumentalist and producer, will perform on Saturday, August 2. Carr is known for his blending of classic jazz, soul, and hip-hop into fresh, contemporary grooves.
Carr has collaborated with heavyweights like Robert Glasper, Terrace Martin, George Clinton, and Roy Ayers. He is set to perform at the Newport Jazz Festival on Saturday, August 2.
